Online Open Training
Understanding & Supporting
LGBT+ Young People

Allsorts Youth Project has been delivering training to professionals, and support services to LGBTU+ children and young people for over 20 years.

Now is an opportune time to undertake training to increase knowledge and confidence in the workplace.

Allsorts Training & Education Service offers high-quality online LGBT+training aimed at those supporting, or likely to be supporting, LGBT+ young people.

All profits made from this training go directly into providing support services for vulnerable LGBTU+ children & young people.

Two different training courses on offer:

  • Understanding and Supporting LGBT+ Children & Young People
  • Understanding and Supporting Trans and Gender-Exploring Children & Young People

Understanding and Supporting LGBT+ Children & Young People

This training will explore the issues and challenges that Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, or those who are unsure of their sexual orientation or gender identity, children and young people face, how their mental health & wellbeing are impacted by these challenges, and how best to support them.

We will learn ways to make our services safer and more LGBTQ+ inclusive by exploring ways of identifying and challenging homophobia, biphobia and transphobia at home, school, college or work.  Although trans/gender identity issues will be covers in this session, the emphasis of this course is more broadly aimed at the whole LGBTQ+ community, due to the fact we run a separate course on gender identity and trans issues, detailed below.

Benefits and Learning Outcomes

  • Explore the challenges faced by LGBTU+ children and young people and the impact of these on their mental health and emotional wellbeing.
  • Examine current LGBTU+ terminology and explore common myths about LGBTU+.
  • Examine relevant legislation and how this applies to organisations providing services.
  • Explore how to identify and challenge homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying, insults and language.
  • Examine how to create an LGBT+ inclusive and safer-space environment

This training course has two different options to suit your time, budget, and training needs. The core content will be the same in both sessions, however, the longer session will go into much more depth and leave more time for questions and answers.

"I thought the training was pitched at the right level for what I imagine is a range of knowledge, experience and understanding across the team. I doubt anyone went away without something on their list that they want to look at greater depth or something to come back to, either for professional development or as part of work with schools."

"I felt this was a really helpful training and I am reassured that my colleagues who perhaps have less experience in this area had a great introduction to the issues and key concepts. I was able to take away practical approaches to aid my work in this area. I was so grateful for the experiences the facilitators shared as it helped set a very open and accepting tone to the training. Thanks and keep up the great work!"
