Allsorts LGBT+ Allyship Programme

What is the Allsorts LGBT+ Allyship Programme?

The Allsorts LGBT+ Allyship Programme provides organisations with training, information, advice and guidance to support them in creating and maintaining an LGBT+ Allies Team within their organisation.

We believe that having a designated LGBT+ Allies Team in your organisation will ensure better LGBT+ awareness and inclusion, stronger support for your service users and staff, and make your organisation a safer space for all LGBT+ people.

An LGBT+ Allies Team will have an active role in your organisation to ensure any issues relating to LGBT+ inclusion are identified and appropriately addressed.  Although the time-commitment can be fairly minimal, the impact can be huge!

How does it work?

LGBT+ Allies will be trained by Allsorts Training & Education Team through a general LGBT+ Awareness and Inclusion Training, possibly alongside other staff from your organisation, and then will undertake more advanced training in what it means to be an LGBT+ Ally and how to create your LGBT+ Allyship Team.

Initial LGBT+ Awareness Training
We expect a minimum of 50% of all staff in your organisation undertakes this initial training but we recommend all staff undertake the training, if possible.  This training aims to provide participants with greater knowledge and confidence in understanding and supporting people from the LGBT+ community and how to be more LGBT+ inclusive.

LGBT+ Allyship Training
Following the initial LGBT+ Awareness and Inclusion Training staff can put themselves forward to become part of your Allies Team.  Those who are selected will receive additional training focussing on what it means to be an LGBT+ Ally and how to create your organisation’s LGBT+ Allies Team.

Ongoing  telephone support, information, advice and guidance
In addition to training, the LGBT+ Allies Team will have access to an agreed amount of ongoing support from the Allsorts Team through telephone or email support, information, advice and guidance.  The amount of support will be agreed upon depending on the size of your organisation.

What do you get for participating in the Allsorts LGBT+ Allyship Programme?
  • Programme Participation Certificate
Your organisation will receive a certificate showing that you are participating in the Allyship Programme.
  • Branded Website Assets and Email Banners
To allow you to demonstrate your commitment to LGBT+ inclusion in your organisation via your website.  The LGBT+ Allies Team will have a unique banner for their email signatures.
  • Branded LGBT+ Allies Staff Team Poster Template
To support the visibility of your LGBT+ Allies Team in your organisation and the wider community.
  • LGBT+ Allies Lanyards
The LGBT+ Allies Team will be given a special rainbow-themed lanyard that shows they are a designated LGBT+ Ally.
What does it cost?
The cost will depend on the size of your organisation as this will dictate the number of initial training sessions and ongoing support you will need. Please contact our Training & Education Manager for more information: training@allsortsyouth.org.uk

How long does the award last?
The Initial LGBT+ Awareness and Inclusion Training and LGBT+ Allies Team Training will usually be conducted over a 6-8 week period (3 separate short sessions).  The information, advice and guidance support is then available for a year after completion of the training.

Beyond this, we would anticipate schools and colleges will have the knowledge and confidence to continue this work with very little support from Allsorts, although additional support can be provided.  We would expect refresher training and a review of practices to take place again after 2 years.
