Allsorts LGBT+ Allyship Programme

What is the Allsorts LGBT+ Allyship Programme?

The Allsorts LGBT+ Allyship Programme provides organisations with training, information, advice and guidance to support them in creating and maintaining an LGBT+ Allies Team within their organisation.

We believe that having a designated LGBT+ Allies Team in your organisation will ensure better LGBT+ inclusion, stronger support for your service users and staff, and make your organisation a safer space for all LGBT+ people.

An LGBT+ Allies Team will have an active role in your organisation to ensure any issues relating to LGBT+ inclusion are identified and appropriately addressed.  Although the time-commitment can be fairly minimal, the impact can be huge!

How does it work?

LGBT+ Allies will be trained by Allsorts Training & Education Team through a general LGBT+ Awareness Training, possibly alongside other staff from your organisation, and then will undertake more advanced training in what it means to be an LGBT+ Ally and how to create your LGBT+ Allyship Team.

Initial LGBT+ Awareness Training
We expect a minimum of 50% of all staff in your organisation undertakes this initial training but we recommend all staff undertake the training, if possible.  This training aims to provide participants with greater knowledge and confidence in understanding and supporting people from the LGBT+ community and how to be more LGBT+ inclusive.

LGBT+ Allyship Training
Following the initial LGBT+ Awareness Training staff can put themselves forward to become part of your Allies Team.  Those who are selected will receive additional training focussing on what it means to be an LGBT+ Ally and how to create your organisation’s LGBT+ Allies Team.

Ongoing  telephone support, information, advice and guidance
In addition to training, the LGBT+ Allies Team will have access to an agreed amount of ongoing support from the Allsorts Team through telephone or email support, information, advice and guidance.  The amount of support will be agreed upon depending on the size of your organisation.

Achievement Certificate / Allies Lanyards
Your organisation will receive a certificate showing that you have achieved the award and staff that complete the LGBT+ Allies training will be given a special rainbow-themed lanyard that shows they are a designated LGBT+ Ally.

What does it cost?
The cost will depend on the size of your organisation as this will dictate the number of initial training sessions and ongoing support you will need. Please contact our Training & Education Manager for more information: training@allsortsyouth.org.uk

How long does the award last?
The award is granted for a two year period starting from the completion of the LGBT+ Allies Training. As this is a fairly new Award we are still working on what happens after the two years, we will be working on developing a system where organisations can renew their award without necessarily having to undergo the full process again.
