Community & Youth Volunteer Awards

May 30, 2017

Every year we come together & celebrate the incredible Youth Volunteers and Community Volunteers here at Allsorts. This year they've put in over 2,000 hours of voluntary work between them - just amazing!

Our guest of honour, Councillor Daniel Chapman (Chair of the Children, Young People & skills Committee, Brighton & Hove City Council) gave a fantastic speech, handed out the awards & stayed with us for our usual buffet bonanza after the ceremony.

The young people who were celebrated tonight have access to the volunteering opportunities we offer for anyone over the age of 16 who are already accessing our groups and services (training provided for each of these roles):

  • Peer Role Models - Over 16's who help out at our under 16's group TAG and who ensure anyone coming up from TAG knows a friendly face when they start coming to drop-in.
  • Peer Educators - Support our staff to deliver LGBTU awareness workshops in schools, colleges and other youth setting (training provided)
  • Buddys: Help newly inducted young people to settle in and feel welcome at drop-In
  • Kitchen Volunteers:  Help prepare food for our weekly 16-25 drop-in group.

Our adult Community Volunteers help the staff to run the supportive space for young people - they give up their evenings to come and help, support & engage with our young people & we are forever grateful for this, without them we simply couldn't run the drop-in spaces as we don't have the staff numbers.

"I enjoy helping out knowing that the young people have diverse role models and people they can trust and will understand what they going through."MARINA

We look forward to celebrating our fabulous volunteers again next year!
