March 8th, 2012 by

Today International Women’s Day celebrates its 101st birthday.  The day means different things to different people; from a general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women to a recognition of women’s economic, political and social achievements. With this in mind, Allsorts casts its eye over a few local services and groups available to lesbian, bisexual and trans women in Brighton and Hove.

Us of course!  No Dress Code.  A vibrant monthly social group for LBT women aged 16-25, which meets from 5-7pm on the first Thursday of every month. The group includes social activities and workshops, trips out (previous examples- BBQ and Lipservice screening) along with games and discussions.  Not to mention free food!  http://www.allsortsyouth.org.uk/groups/no-dress-code-womens-group/

Women’s Peer Support Group, run by MindOut. A weekly group for LBT women who would like to meet others and discuss their mental health. The group meets on Tuesdays 4.30-6 pmhttp://www.mindout.org.uk/ourservices.html#peersupport

Actually Gay Women’s Chorus. A friendly choir where you can learn some singing skills and take part in performances to raise money for charity.  The choir meets every Monday evening.   http://www.actuallygwc.org/

The Women’s Centre. The centre aims to empower women and promote independence in a safe, women-only space. The services they offer include group work, counselling, open access drop-ins, holistic therapies, volunteer training and self development courses. Dates and times vary.  http://www.womenscentre.org.uk/

LesArtz.  A creative arts group that promotes and encourages lesbians to be creative and empowered using a variety of art mediums.  They run regular activities by and for lesbians such as songwriting, life drawing, sculpture, drawing, textiles, collage and more.
