Supporting the PSHE curriculum
Allsorts can also run workshops for secondary school pupils as part of a planned PSHE programme. The workshops aim to help pupils understand the effects of homophobia, biphobia and transphobia, and develop empathy for their LGBTU peers. We can also train schools’ anti-bullying peer mentors/educators on how to support pupils who are victims of homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying.
LGBTU young people from Allsorts help run these workshops. They talk about their own experiences of growing up as LGBTU as well as the impact that homophobic, biphobic and transphobic language and bullying has had on them.
Workshop topics include:
• Impact of homophobic, biphobic and transphobic language and bullying on LGBTU young people’s wellbeing
• Challenging stereotypes and myths about LGBT people
• LGBTU Peer Educators’ personal testimonies of the issues they faced growing up as LGBTU e.g. coming out, bullying etc.
• How to challenge homophobic, biphobic and transphobic language and support their LGBTU peers.
Our workshops for pupils at Brighton and Hove secondary schools is carried out in partnership with (and is funded by) Brighton and Hove Healthy Schools Team. West Sussex Healthy Schools Team is also currently funding some workshops for young people at secondary schools in West Sussex. If your school is outside of Brighton and Hove and West Sussex, we charge a fee for the workshops. Our rates are on a sliding scale and you choose where to put yourself on that scale. For more information about fees, please contact Allsorts.
