Staff Training and Student Workshops for Primary and Secondary Schools

According to Stonewall’s The School Report (2012) and The Teacher’s Report (2009) and Press for Change’s Engendered Penalties (2007):

  • More than half (55%) of lesbian, gay and bisexual young people experience homophobic bullying at secondary school
  • More than 2 in 5 primary school teachers (44%) say children experience homophobic bullying in their school
  • 64% of trans men and 44% of trans women experienced transphobic bullying at school

Schools have a statutory duty to tackle all forms of bullying including homo/bi/transphobic bullying as well as a duty of care to ensure the safety and protect the wellbeing of all their students. The new Ofsted framework (launched in January 2012) places more focus on the behaviour and safety of students, including prejudice-based bullying and harassment such as homo/bi/transphobic bullying and harassment.

Allsorts can provide LGBT Awareness training for school staff and workshops on sexual orientation and gender identity for students at both secondary and primary schools. We work in partnership with Brighton and Hove Healthy Schools Team to provide training and workshops for schools based in Brighton and Hove. We can also provide training and workshops for schools in East and West Sussex.

Staff Training and Workshops for Young People at Youth Projects and Further Education Colleges

Allsorts can provide workshops for young people and students at youth projects and further education colleges. The workshops explore issues around sexual orientation, gender identity and homo/bi/transphobic language and bullying.
