Sexual Health Clinics in the Brighton and Hove area

Claude Nicol Centre GUM Clinic (CNC)
The Claude Nicol is a sexual health clinic. It is based at the Royal Sussex Hospital in Brighton.

Services and opening times:
To make a confidential appointment call the above number between 12.30 and 4.30pm Monday to Friday. Emergency slots are also available. Refer to website for further details.
Drop In: Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri-8.30am - 10.30am (sometimes these times are subject to change, so it is advisable to phone first)
Young Persons Clinic - This is a walk in clinic (no appointment necessary) for young people under 18 every Thursday afternoon at 3.30 - 5.30pm
Gay Men's Clinic - The Wilde Clinic. This service at the Claude Nicol offers a confidential sexual health service to gay and bisexual men regardless of HIV status. This walk in clinic is open on Wednesday evenings 17.00-20.00hrs (you can also book an appointment in advance).
PEP
If you think you may have been exposed to HIV and need PEP you can phone the CNC on 01273 664721 or go to the walk in clinic. If it is out of hours or weekends you can visit the emergency department at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.

Warren Browne Unit (GUM Clinic)

The Waren Browne Unit is a sexual health clinic based at Southlands hospital in Shoreham-by-Sea and offers testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections.

Other Local Services

There are plenty of other local services that will provide information, support, testing, counselling and free condoms and lube. There really is a lot of support out there if you need it!

THT (Terrence Higgins Trust South)
THT is a charity that provides information and support about HIV and sexually transmitted infections. You can go for a fast, 1 hour testing service for HIV (called Fasttest) and if you have a particular problem or concern you can speak to someone face to face, or even get counselling. They also offer outreach services to venues and meeting places on the gay scene where they will have free condoms/lube and information.

Face to Face confidential information, advice and support on all aspects of sex, relationships & discrimination for gay men, bisexual men, transgender people and men who have sex with men in Sussex. Face to face or by telephone. Up to three 1 hour appointments depending on the need .
Drop In to Brighton THT
This is a 'drop in' Service providing sexual health information and resources, including free condom and lube, to anyone who drops into the Brighton centre on ship street. Drop In opening times: Mon 14.00-18.00 and Thu 18.00-22.00
Counselling
The counselling service is for people affected by HIV in the Brighton and Hove area and is provided by a qualified counsellor on a 12 session weekly basis. The may be a waiting list up to 6-8 weeks. Appointments are available during the daytime and on Wednesday and Friday evenings. Please phone for details on how to access the service.

Unisex
Unisex is a drop in support and advice service for students and staff at the Universities of Sussex and Brighton. Services include advice, low cost condoms, chlamydia screening, contraception advice and internet access.

Sexual Health Support at Allsorts Youth Project

Allsorts can also help you with any sexual health concerns you may have. We provide:

  • Free Condoms, Dental Dams and lube - All you need to do is register to get a 'C-Card' . You can use the card to get free condoms at our drop In, or other youth organisations around the city.
  • Confidential advice and information - Speak to Jim at the Drop-In or find a leaflet for information on a particular sexual health concern.
  • 1 - 2 - 1 support - If you have a sexual health/relationship worry or concern you can book 1-2-1 support session to see Jim outside of the drop-in.
  • Confidential screening/testing - A friendly local sexual health advisor visits the Allsorts drop in on a regular basis. We can give him you mobile number or e-mail and he will call you to arrange a meeting time that is convenient to you. See Jim for a registration form.
  • Vaccinations against Hepatitis A and B - These are available from the visiting sexual health advisor.
  • Chlamydia testing - a simple test is available at any time during the drop in.
  • Workshops and discussions
  • Men's group - the group meets every month on a Thursday.
  • Online Help - for confidential relationship/sexual health problems or concerns follow the 'Ask Allsorts' link at the top of the page.
