Allsorts Residentials

Our annual residential provides a space away from everyday life, for young people, volunteers and staff. This offers an opportunity to spend a few days working together and getting to know each other better. For many of the young people, the residential is one of the highpoints of their year at Allsorts.

Young Women's Feedback

"The Allsorts Women's Residential was absolutely amazing. I enjoyed myself so much. The people from Allsorts who went were sweet and very nice. We did lots of workshops on the barriers we face as an LGBT community. Nine of us went. We each had our own room which also had showers in them. This is my second residential and the best so far. It really made me come out of my shell more. Me and the young people were dancing in the Felbury living room. Listening to lots of cds, and the breakfast, lunch, dinner was very nice. I cannot wait until the next residential. Time goes so quick when you are having fun. It has been well worth the wait until next year. Everyone that went on the residential I completely admire and just want to say thankyou.

Well what can I say about the residential it was absolutely amazing. It was so different to a mixed residential. I got to know staff, volunteers and young women a whole lot better. The pranks that we played on staff and volunteers were so amazing. The workshops were so helpful. Out of all the residentials I have been to, this was the best so far. Cheeky"

"The weekend away was my first residential, let alone an Allsorts residential, so I was full of mixed feelings; excitement yet apprehension, concern but relaxed and so on. As it turned out the break away was the much needed time out from work that I had hoped for. The workshops were far from the dull and boring exercises that I had imagined possible, in fact they allowed my inner spirit to emerge.

One of the highlights of the trip was the night hike. To be out in the countryside surrounded by woodland felt so soothing to my soul, bringing myself closer to nature, and the experience was intensified once darkness had fallen.

I was delighted to witness the staff at Allsorts were enjoying the time as much as we were, and as one of the other women had rightly said, 'this weekend is as much for them as it is for us.' Their hard work, organisation and commitment had paid off.

Whilst playing the Ungame there was a lot of sharing of deep, meaningful thoughts close to out hearts, enabling us to get to know everybody else all the better, which resulted in a fantastic weekend. What more could anybody ask for from a residential?"

Young People's Feedback

"I enjoyed the residential because it gives me more confidence in myself and learned that even if you feel alone you are not. I didn't participate in all the activities, but most of them was really helpful. It gives me the opportunity to know more people, and not being able to have contact with more people from outside gives more time to think about the past and also the future we want to have and give

The residential was fantastic and emotional. I really enjoyed waking up to a family of friends. Every second was an eye opener. I felt like a completely different person every day. More self-assured, more confident and more trust-worthy. The challenge course gave me a lot of inspiration and motivation. It made me realise that there is no "I" in team. Also the archery and the night hike was brilliant.I love everyone and I think that I came out with a lot of great inspiring friends. The food was great!

My residential was amazing. I enjoyed every minute of it. I have got so much more confident and more proud of myself. I enjoyed and had so much fun on the activities, especially the challenge course. The residential is just what I needed and I feel a lot better for it.

The residential is exactly what I needed. I went there feeling ashamed of being gay, but came back feeling totally proud. The highlights for me were the drama workshops and the challenge course because I had to step out of my comfort zone and become more confident".
