Bi Brighton creates online campaign to celebrate Bi Visibility Day

September 19th, 2012 by

Allsorts Youth Project’s new youth network ‘Bi Brighton’ has created an online campaign which will be rolled out in the days leading up to Bi Visibility Day on Sunday 23rd September.  The online campaign will feature one or two images a day, which will be released on Allsorts Facebook and Twitter accounts.

It’s hoped that the positive images, which feature young people, volunteers and workers from Allsorts wearing t-shirts with the slogans ‘Bi is Beautiful’ and ‘Bi Ally;’ will promote visibility of bi and pan young people, who often face discrimination from both the hetero and homosexual communities.

Mel Berry, the Bi Brighton Co-ordinator, said: “We recently had an online campaign which celebrated International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia.  It was really successful in raising awareness around prejudice, as well as getting people talking.  I hope that this campaign will have the same impact; in raising awareness, helping people to celebrate and be proud of who they are, as well as getting people talking about the issues that young bi and pan people face.”

A young person who took part in the photo’s stated “I’m really looking forward to seeing the photos; it was great fun being in them.  It’s also really important to raise awareness too, as bi people are often invisible.”

Bi Brighton is also teaming up with LGBT HIP, Clare Project and Brighton Bothways to hold an event on Bi Visibility Day.  This will include cake, tea, guest speakers, bi bingo, videos and much more! It is 6-8pm at Jubilee Library.  For more information please email info@brightonbothways.org or call 07505385094.
