Adult Volunteering

Drop-in Volunteer Scheme

Drop-in Volunteers help Allsorts staff to run a weekly drop-in for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and unsure young people. The drop-in is held at a venue in central Brighton. At the drop-in the young people can access information and support, meet other LGBTU young people their age and participate in a range of activities designed to promote their wellbeing (for example, workshops on sexual health, coming out and other relevant topics as well as more social and creative activities such as art and drama projects).

Activities:

• Help the staff team to facilitate the drop-in’s programme of activities (workshops, art projects, games etc)

• Help the young people to participate in the drop-in’s activities

• Help the staff team to set up the drop-in and clear up afterwards

• Help prepare and serve meals for the young people

• Provide support and information to the young people

Time Commitment

The Allsorts drop-in is on a Tuesday evening, from 5.30pm to 8.30pm (although volunteers can arrive later than 5.30pm if work commitments mean they cannot start earlier). After the drop-in, we clear up and hold a de-brief session, finishing at about 9pm. Volunteers are normally expected to volunteer at least two evenings a month for one year.

Induction/Training

Volunteers are expected to attend a six week induction training process before they begin volunteering. This introduces volunteers to how Allsorts works and their role as a drop-in volunteer. The induction usually takes place at a venue in central Brighton on Tuesday evenings, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. Allsorts also runs regular ongoing training for volunteers.

Supervision/Support

New volunteers receive supervision/support sessions with a member of staff every six weeks. After volunteering for six months, supervision tends to take place on a quarterly basis. This is an opportunity for the volunteer to reflect on their progress, raise any concerns they may have and make plans for how they would like their volunteer role to develop.

Recruitment

We are not currently recruiting for volunteers at the moment.  To be added to our waiting list please email info@allsortsyouth.org.uk, we’ll then contact you when we next recruit.
